The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) has advised that Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 remains in effect as of 0645 hours (local time) on Tuesday (01 September).
• At 0700 hours (local time), Tropical Depression Saudel was located approximately 350 kilometres south-southwest of Hong Kong, near 19.3 degrees North, 113.0 degrees East, and was moving eastward or northeastward at around 18 km/h across the northern South China Sea.
• Under the combined influence of Tropical Depression Saudel and the northeast monsoon, Hong Kong is experiencing fresh northerly winds. Due to terrain shielding, strong winds are not expected to become widespread during the morning, and Signal No. 1 is expected to remain in force until at least noon.
• The Observatory advised that Saudel is expected to move closer to Guangdong from Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday (02 September). Wind conditions along the coast are expected to strengthen gradually, and the HKO will assess the cyclone’s intensity, the extent of associated strong winds, its distance from the Pearl River Delta, and local wind conditions to determine whether the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal will be required.
• Heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of Hong Kong during the day, which may affect the morning commute, school travel and other outdoor activities.
