As per reports, authorities announced on Tuesday (26 May) that traffic on the Makaza to Komotini route is expected to resume by the beginning of June.
• Reports indicate that the bypass around the collapsed section of the Makaza-Komotini route is expected to be completed within three to four days, and vehicle movement is anticipated to resume thereafter.
• Traffic on the affected section was suspended in February after heavy rainfall caused a landslide and the collapse of the road surface on the Greek side of the route.
• Traffic is currently being redirected through a bypass route, which is relatively narrower, with a large displacement and multiple turns.
• The Makaza to Komotini route forms part of the European road E85 and Pan-European Transport Corridor Number Nine connecting Bulgaria and Greece.
