As per reports, the first Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Perahera festival (religious procession) will be held in Kandy on Sunday (23 August), commencing at 1844 hours (local time) from the Palace.
The procession will cover a total distance of one kilometers and 860 meters before returning to the Palace. The details are as follows:
• The Perahera will proceed via Thalatha Road, Bansal Road, Viharaya Road, Deva Road, Colombo Road, Kotugudalla Road or Kodukotella Road, Cross Road or Cross Street, T.S. Senanayake Road and Raja Road before returning to the Palace and concluding the first Randoli Perahera.
• A special traffic plan has been implemented within Kandy city during the procession, and the police have announced alternative routes for vehicles. Special security arrangements will also be in place, including roadblocks, security duties, checks of vehicles and persons, guidance for tourists and designated parking facilities.
• Heavy vehicles travelling from Kadugastota towards Kandy city have been advised to proceed from Mahiyawa Junction towards Police Junction via Thilak Ratnayake Mawatha.
• Light vehicles travelling from the Kadugastota area have been advised to use T.S. Senanayake Road and reach Yatinuwara Road via Cross Road. They can then turn right, travel left near Meeramakkam Mosque and proceed via Thilak Ratnayake Mawatha.
• Vehicles exiting Kandy towards Kadugastota have been advised to travel from Police Junction towards Mahiyawa via Thilak Ratnayake Mawatha. Vehicles travelling from the Thennakumbura and Ampitiya areas can reach Wales Park Junction via Sangaraja Mawatha, turn right onto Ehelepola Kumarihami Mawatha and proceed towards Bogambara Railway Station. From this location, vehicles travelling towards Colombo can turn left, while those travelling towards Kandy city can turn right.
• Vehicles can also enter Kandy city from the Rajapihilla Mawatha junction via Pallivasal Road. Vehicles travelling from Kandy city towards Ampitiya and Theldeniya can proceed from the Manikuttikuda Roundabout via Thalatha Road, pass the Joy Boat Service near the side entrance of the Queen’s Hotel and continue via Sangaraja Mawatha.
• At the Bogambara Roundabout, vehicles travelling towards Ampitiya and Thennakumbura can use Ehelepola Kumarihami Mawatha, Rajapihilla Mawatha, Wales Park Junction and Sangaraja Mawatha. Vehicles entering or exiting Kandy from the Colombo direction can use William Gopallawa Mawatha and Old Peradeniya Road in both directions.
