Traffic congestion reported due to heavy snowfall conditions across South Korea on Tuesday (28 January)

As per reports, the Korea Expressway Corporation reported severe traffic congestion due to overnight snowfall conditions and the holiday rush ahead of Seollal celebrations across South Korea on Tuesday (28 January). The additional details are as follows:

• A section between Gyeryong and Seodaejeon in Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do at the Honam Expressway was reportedly closed.
• A tanker reportedly slipped and overturned at around 0311 hours (local time) on the Dangjin-Daejeon Expressway in Gongju-si Chungcheongnam-do injuring the driver and closing lanes.
• Nine commuter buses reportedly skidded on the Hwanseong-ri, Jigok-myeon, Seosan-si, Chungcheongnam-at around 0732 hours (local time) on snowy roads, resulting in one driver injured and 47 other passengers with minor injuries.
• Additionally, single-vehicle accidents were also reported on the Yeongdong Line near the Hoengseong rest area and on the Jungbu Line near the Gwangjiwon Tunnel at around 0619 hours (local time).
• As of 0800 hours (local time) on Tuesday (28 January), extended travel times are reported with travels from the Seoul tollgate to Busan estimated at around seven hours and 20 minutes, while travel times to other key areas are as follows: Six hours and 50 minutes to Ulsan, six hours and 40 minutes to Mokpo, six hours and 20 minutest to Gwangju and Daegu, three hours and 50 minutes to Gangneung, and three hours and 30 minutes to Daejeon.
• On the Gyeongbu Expressway towards Busan traffic congestion reportedly spanned three kilometers between Suwon and Giheung Rest Area and 12 kilometers from Dongtan Junction to Nam-sa. Additionally, on the West Coast Expressway towards Mokpo, a two kilometers backup is reported near Bibong, and on the Jungbu Expressway towards Nami, the congestions reportedly covered two kilometers between Hobop Junction and Moga.
• The Korea Expressway Corporation has advised caution to drivers and commuters on slippery roads, particularly along the Gyeongbu Expressway between Hannam and Anseong, from Anseong to the Chupungnyeong Rest Area, and from Chupungnyeong to Gyeongsan. Additional alerts include the Gwanggyo Tunnel on the Yeongdong Expressway and from Yongin to Gangneung Junction.
