Total closure of Somport tunnel scheduled in Spain from Monday (14 September)

As per reports, French road authorities and the Ministry of Transport announced a total temporary closure of the Somport international road tunnel (Túnel de Somport) connecting Spain and France across the Pyrenees due to slope stabilization works and ventilation upgrades from Monday (14 September).

• Reports suggest that the cross-border vehicular closure is scheduled to begin at 1600 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) on Monday (14 September) and remain active until 1700 hours local time (1500 hours UTC) on Saturday (19 September) between kilometer markers 666.2 and 672.4 on the N-330 (Spain) and 115.2 and 118.8 on the RN 1134 (France).
• Reports indicate that light passenger vehicles weighing under 3,500 kilograms may utilize the mountain pass route (Puerto de Somport / N-330a) as an alternative route, except during a full closure window on the N-330a between 1000 hours local time (0800 hours UTC) and 1600 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) on Tuesday (15 September).
• Reports indicate that heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and trucks carrying dangerous goods are scheduled to be entirely prohibited from using the mountain pass during the maintenance period and must divert via alternative Pyrenean border crossings.
