Risk level: Low Country: India

As per reports, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) faction led by former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a protest march in Kolkata on Tuesday (13 October), demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

• According to a pamphlet circulated by the faction, the procession is scheduled to begin in Rajabazar, North Kolkata, at 1400 hours (local time) and conclude at Park Circus in central Kolkata. The protest is also expected to target the Central Government over the reported detention of opposition leaders and protesters in New Delhi.
• The organisers have appealed to students, youth, women and workers to participate. Mamata Banerjee’s participation remains unconfirmed, although party insiders indicated that she could lead the march if she returns to Kolkata in time. As of latest reports, Kolkata Police’s permission for the proposed procession remained unclear. The final arrangements and route may depend on the police decision.
