As per reports, Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has announced temporary and ongoing disruptions affecting emergency department (ED) services at multiple healthcare facilities across Saskatchewan due to staffing shortages and operational requirements.
• According to the SHA, temporary service disruptions are implemented only as a last resort after efforts to secure physician and healthcare staff coverage have been exhausted.
• The authority added that disruptions may result from physician or nursing vacancies, unplanned absences, scheduled leave, or facility and equipment upgrades.
• Emergency department services at Biggar and District Health Centre are unavailable from 1600 hours local time (2200 hours UTC) on Friday (03 July until 0800 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) on Monday (06 July). During this period, patients requiring emergency medical care will be redirected to neighboring healthcare facilities.
• Emergency department services at Arcola Health Centre are suspended from 0700 hours local time (1300 hours UTC) until 1900 hours local time (0100 hours UTC on 05 July) on Saturday (04 July). Residents requiring urgent medical attention during the closure should seek care at alternate hospitals or contact emergency medical services.
• Emergency department services at Riverside Health Complex in Turtleford will be unavailable between 0800 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) and 1600 hours local time (2200 hours UTC) on Sunday (05 July) due to staffing constraints.
• The Saskatchewan Health Authority has advised that service availability may change with little notice depending on staffing levels. Consequently, not all disruptions may be immediately reflected in public updates.
• The authority encourages residents to contact Healthline 811, which operates 24 hours a day, for medical advice and the latest information regarding healthcare service availability.
