As per reports, the teachers’ strike against the education department is ongoing on Tuesday (25 March), marking the first of three planned strike days this week, continuing through Thursday (27 March).
• Two additional strike days are scheduled for next week on 01 April and 02 April, impacting teachers, kitchen staff, and cleaning personnel in public education.
• Talks between the Basque Government’s Department of Education and major unions (LAB, Steilas, ELA, and CC OO) ended without an agreement early this morning, leading to the continuation of protests.
• Unions argue that the government’s offer is insufficient and are demanding a new collective agreement to replace the one that expired in 2010, citing a 23 percent loss in purchasing power and deteriorating working conditions.
• The Basque Government expressed regret over the strike’s impact on students and families, maintaining that its proposal addresses key concerns, including reduced teaching hours, salary improvements, and additional resources.
