As per reports, authorities report that Bausley and his ex-partner, Teone Jones, had a history of domestic violence incidents. On 20 February, an argument between them escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing of Jones. Bausley then injured two children while attempting to evade law enforcement. An Amber Alert was issued to locate the children, prompting a large-scale police search on Saturday (22 March).
• Surveillance footage captured Bausley attacking a 12-year-old boy, who suffered critical injuries, including punctures to his spleen, pancreas, and liver. The next morning, an eight-year-old boy, also injured, was abandoned by Bausley and later hospitalized.
• Bausley fled to Indiana, where he was apprehended after stabbing himself during a confrontation with law enforcement.
