Surface flooding affects roads across Central Otago on Tuesday (14 July)

As per reports, rapid snowmelt and recent rainfall have caused rivers and streams to rise across parts of Central Otago, resulting in surface flooding on several roads on Tuesday (14 July).

• Local authorities stated that flooding conditions are expected to worsen overnight and continue into Wednesday (15 July).
• Reef Road ford crossing near Oturehua has been closed due to flooding, while Danseys Pass remains closed from the gates near the hotel.
• Authorities have urged motorists to exercise particular caution in Ida Valley and Oturehua, Wedderburn, St Bathans, Kyeburn, and Matakanui/Omakau, where rivers and streams have overflowed.
• Road maintenance teams are monitoring conditions and carrying out clearance works where possible; however, motorists are advised to expect continued surface flooding and travel disruptions.
