As per reports, New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani has announced that New York City is expected to host a ticker-tape parade and City Hall ceremony honouring the New York Knicks and awarding Keys to the City on Thursday (18 June), following the team’s NBA Championship win.
• The ticker-tape celebration is scheduled to commence at 1000 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) near Battery Park and travel north along Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes before concluding at City Hall.
• Once the parade reaches City Hall, Mayor Mamdani is expected to preside over a championship celebration and Key to the City ceremony on City Hall Plaza, immediately following the parade.
• Vehicular closures along the route included Broadway between Reade Street and Battery Place, State Street between Battery Place and Bridge Street, Battery Place between West Thames Street and Broadway, and several adjoining streets in the Battery Park City and Financial District areas are to be expected.
• Several MTA subway stations along Broadway are expected to face temporary entrance and exit closures or heavy bypasses, and road traffic in the surrounding area is expected to be severely congested for the duration of the event.
