As per reports, a Civil Protection State of Emergency has been declared for the Municipal Communities of Kalivia, Olympiada, Spartormos and Pythio in Elassona Municipality, Larissa Regional Unit, Greece on Friday (25 September) after unsafe levels of uranium were detected in the drinking water network.
• Water consumption is prohibited for drinking, cooking and children’s toothbrushing in the affected communities. Adults may use the water for bathing and household cleaning, but not for ingestion, pending further guidance from health and environmental authorities.
• Initial testing in Kalivia reported uranium concentrations around 130 micrograms per litre, exceeding the parametric value of 30 micrograms per litre and subsequent checks identified elevated uranium exclusively in Kalivia, Olympiada, Spartormos and Pythio, with other Elassona settlements reporting values within safe limits.
