Sri Lanka Meteorological Department issued a rainfall and thunderstorm forecast on Monday (14 September).
• There is a disturbance in the lower atmosphere near Sri Lanka. Thundershowers will occur in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Uva provinces.
• Heavy rainfall of more than 100 mm is expected in some places in the Upper, Central, Sabaragamuwa, South, North-Central and North-West provinces.
• Amber advisory for severe lightning is issued for North-central, North-western, Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Mannar districts.
• Moreover, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) stated that flash floods have been reported in a Divisional Secretariat (DS) division in the Kandy District following heavy rainfall on Monday (14 September).
• As a result, 25 people have been affected and have been temporarily accommodated at Navalapitiya Bawwagama Vidyalaya. Relief operations are currently underway to assist those displaced by the flooding.
• Measures are currently being implemented to ensure a continuous supply of drinking water to the affected communities. Water distribution is underway for 141,312 people from 43,221 families across 36 Divisional Secretariat divisions.
