As per reports, special traffic arrangements have been implemented in Kottarakkara town, Kerala, to manage the increased movement of vehicles and pedestrians from Thursday (20 August) during the Onam period.
• The police and Kottarakkara Municipality have arranged 13 parking spaces across the town, while additional traffic police personnel have been deployed at six locations apart from the points where police are already stationed.
• Barricades will be installed along the centre of the road between Pulamon Junction and Lotus Junction to regulate traffic movement in both directions. Arrangements will also be made to facilitate pedestrian crossings along this stretch.
• A complete one-way traffic system will be implemented from Minerva Junction to Chenthara Road. Vehicles returning from Chenthara are required to reach Chanthamukku via Muslim Street Palam.
• Free parking facilities have been arranged at the LIC Parking Ground, Pulamon; parking lot at Venus Junction; Municipal Ground, Chandumukku; parking ground opposite Mini Civil Station; parking ground opposite Kerala Bank on Chandamukku–Oyur Road; parking ground near the Water Authority office on Faithhome–TB Junction Road; Municipality parking lot opposite Jubilee Building; and parking lot near Faith Home.
• The Ganapati Temple land near the petrol pump at Chanthamukku, Kottarakkara, may also be allocated for vehicle parking. A letter has been submitted to the authorities requesting that the gate be opened to facilitate Onam parking.
• A pay-and-park system will also operate at five centres, with signs installed to identify designated parking areas. Additional police personnel will be deployed to manage traffic and crowds. Authorities have advised motorists to exercise caution, particularly as large crowds have gathered in Kottarakkara town due to Onam. Drivers of large vehicles are advised to avoid entering the town as far as practicable.
