As per reports, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida issued warnings against North Korea’s satellite launch (suspected to be a missile launch) on Monday (27 May), calling it a violation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. The launch came just hours after South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Chinese Premier Li Qiang held a trilateral summit in Seoul.

• South Korea on Monday (27 May) staged an air exercise near the Korean border in response to the launch from North Korea. According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the drills involving over 20 fighter jets were carried out just South of the no-fly zone.
• South Korean military sources claimed they suspected a possible simultaneous satellite launch and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch, adding that they are closely working with their counterparts in United States (US) and Japan to monitor and track the launch and find its wreckage.
• North Korea said on Tuesday (28 May) that the attempt to launch a new rocket carrying its military reconnaissance satellite ended in failure due to the midair explosion of the rocket during the first-stage flight.
