As per reports, a large wildfire broke out at approximately 1500 hours local time (1300 hours UTC) on Friday (04 September) in Su Balidone near Cabu Abbas, on the outskirts of Olbia, Sardinia, Italy.
• Strong winds pushed the fire through Mediterranean vegetation towards the western ring road, northern elevated road towards Costa Smeralda, upper Viale Aldo Moro and the adjacent industrial area.
• Road traffic near the affected corridors has been blocked or severely disrupted, with reduced visibility reported due to smoke.
• Firefighting operations are being coordinated by the Olbia Station of the Forestry Corps. A light helicopter from Limbara, a Super Puma helicopter from Alà dei Sardi and Canadair CAN 8 from Olbia Airport are supporting aerial suppression.
• The Canadair is collecting water from the sea near Pittulongu. Two teams from the Fire Brigade, Civil Protection volunteers, road police and local police are also deployed.
