Fire and Emergency New Zealand is continuing suppression and containment operations at an active vegetation fire near Waiinu Beach in South Taranaki on Tuesday (16 December).
• The fire has grown slightly overnight and is estimated to cover just over 100 hectares, and it remains not contained.
• Firefighting operations include two ground crews supported by two helicopters and heavy machinery, with additional crews expected to arrive.
• Smoke is currently being blown offshore and away from Waiinu Village; however, precautionary advisories for residents remain in place.
• Waiinu Beach Road has been closed between Silver Fern Farms Waitotora and the turn-off to the Waiinu Beach settlement for public and responder safety.
