As per reports, two simultaneous forest fires broke out at approximately 1630 hours local time (1430 hours UTC) on Tuesday (29 September) afternoon in the Côte-d’Or department, near Dijon, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France.
• The fires affected the communes of Plombières-lès-Dijon and Velars-sur-Ouche. As of Wednesday (30 September), the fire at Plombières-lès-Dijon was continuing to spread and the situation remains active.
• The fire at Plombières-lès-Dijon developed on steep and difficult-to-access terrain on the heights of the commune, on the Rue d’Hauteville close to the railway line and in the vicinity of the local cemetery.
• As of 1945 hours local time (1745 hours UTC) on Tuesday (29 September), the fire at Plombières-lès-Dijon was still spreading freely, with the burned area estimated at approximately 10 hectares.
• The fire at Velars-sur-Ouche, located at the lieu-dit La Verrerie, was declared under control (fixé) by approximately 1800 hours local time (1600 hours UTC), having burned approximately three hectares.
• At the peak of the intervention, approximately 120 firefighters (sapeurs-pompiers) were deployed across the two fire fronts.
• SNCF suspended all rail traffic in the area of Plombières-lès-Dijon due to the proximity of the fire to the railway line. Two TGV high-speed trains were blocked as a result, one at Venarey-les-Laumes station and one at Blaisy-Bas. The duration of the rail suspension had not been confirmed as of Wednesday (30 September).
