Situational update on road accident reported on A8 motorway in Var on Friday (17 July)

As per reports, a serious single-vehicle road traffic accident occurred at approximately 0550 hours local time (0350 hours UTC) on Friday (17 July) on the A8 motorway near Tourves, in the Var Department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, France.

• The incident took place on the carriageway heading from Aix-en-Provence towards Nice.
• According to emergency services, one vehicle lost control for reasons that have not yet been determined and overturned, coming to rest on its roof. The accident involved only one vehicle.
• The driver sustained serious injuries and received immediate medical treatment at the scene from the Mobile Emergency and Resuscitation Service (SMUR) before being transported to hospital for further treatment.
• A significant emergency response was deployed to manage the incident. The response involved 12 firefighters, supported by one ambulance, one command vehicle, one marking vehicle to secure the intervention area, and one firefighting vehicle as a precautionary measure against any fire risk.
• Personnel from SMUR, law enforcement agencies, and Vinci Autoroutes also participated in the coordinated response, with law enforcement initiating investigations into the circumstances of the accident while Vinci Autoroutes managed motorway traffic and supported the emergency operation.
• The accident resulted in major traffic disruptions on the A8 motorway in the direction of Nice, with significant congestion and delays reported during the morning travel period.
• Authorities advised motorists approaching the affected section to reduce speed, remain alert, and follow traffic management instructions while emergency operations continued.
