As per reports, a significant explosion occurred at approximately 0450 hours (local time) on Sunday (29 June) in the 1900 block of West Bristol Street, located in the Nicetown neighborhood of North Philadelphia.
• The blast leveled three row houses, caused structural damage to nearby residences, and resulted in one confirmed fatality and two serious injuries.
• The Philadelphia Fire Department, in collaboration with Philadelphia Police, ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), PICO, and Philadelphia Gas Works, are jointly investigating the cause of the explosion.
• As of this time, the cause remains undetermined. Search-and-rescue teams, supported by dogs, have completed an initial sweep and are continuing operations to ensure no additional victims are trapped under debris.
• The blast caused extensive collateral damage including broken windows, structural cracks, and debris affecting at least 10 surrounding homes and multiple vehicles. These homes have been evacuated. An emergency shelter has been set up for displaced residents.
