As per reports, a significant city-wide protest was held in Paris by leftist groups following the victory of the National Rally (RN) Party in snap elections on Monday (01 July). Thousands of people set fire to garbage dumps, smashed shop windows and launched fireworks across Paris on Sunday (30 June) late night into early morning on Monday (01 July), protesting the electoral outcome.
Following the events of Sunday night through early morning on Monday (01 July), heightened security deployments have been recorded across Paris across locations such as Place de la République, Place de la Bastille, Place de la Nation and Place de la Concorde.
• Riot police clashed with protesters into the early hours of the morning, particularly at Place de la République, where barricades were overturned, and dozens of protesters climbed the statue of Marianne.
• Protests have been reported as demonstrators march through Place Bellecour in Lyon, France on Sunday (30 June). Fireworks have been launched, and demonstrators have set up barricades and fired mortars.
• Demonstrators have also reportedly attacked a Société Générale branch in the Croix-Rousse district of Lyon, France late evening o Sunday (30 June).
• Authorities have also carried out multiple arrests of violent protestors, warning leftist groups against unlawful activity.
• No major disruptions or damage to property have been reported following the events of Monday (01 July) early morning.
• Local police in Paris have advised vigilance and called for restraint, but have not issued additional security directives.
