As per reports, thousands of protesters marched through the streets of Madrid on Saturday (23 May) to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez over corruption allegations involving his inner circle.
• The protest was called by a group of more than 150 civic associations named Spanish Civil Society and supported by the conservative People’s Party (PP) and the far-right Vox party.
• Protesters carried banners and waved Spanish flags, with a banner reading “Corruption has a price. Resign and elections now.”
• A small group of demonstrators attempted to head towards the official residence at the end of the protest but were repelled by riot police.
• Three people were arrested and seven police officers sustained minor injuries.
