As per reports, as of 2100 hours local time (1900 hours UTC) severe thunderstorms affecting Berlin, Germany, resulted in temporary disruptions to S-Bahn Berlin railway services after a commuter train collided with a fallen tree near Sundgauer Straße station on the S1 line on Friday (17 July).

• The incident was reported at approximately 2029 hours local time (1829 hours UTC) on Friday (17 July). According to authorities, an S-Bahn train carrying approximately 100 passengers struck a tree that had fallen onto the tracks during the storm. The train’s windshield was damaged; however, no injuries were reported.
• Railway services on the S1 line as of 2100 hours local time (1900 hours UTC) had temporarily suspended between Zehlendorf and Botanischer Garten (Botanical Garden) stations before operations resumed approximately one hour later.
• Additionally, reports as of 2230 hours local time (2030 hours UTC) indicate that a lightning incident in the Pankow area disrupted signalling and rail operations, affecting S1, S2, S8, and S85 services. The S2 is operating only between Lichtenrade and Potsdamer Platz at reduced frequency, while the S85 is operating only between Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and Treptower Park, with passengers advised to transfer to the S8 for onward travel to Pankow.
• The German Weather Service (DWD) on Friday (17 July) issued multiple severe thunderstorm warnings for Berlin and Brandenburg, citing the risk of torrential rainfall, hail, lightning, strong wind gusts, falling trees, and localized flooding.
