As per reports, authorities in Massachusetts announced that an outage of the 911 emergency call system occurred statewide on Tuesday (18 June) afternoon for about an hour.
• During the outage Boston Mayor Michelle Wu held a news conference with law enforcement officials, telling residents that they should use direct local police or fire numbers in case of an emergency.
• Reports indicate that the Massachusetts disruption caused confusion in other northeastern states, where some residents also got notifications on their phones. But authorities in Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New York and Vermont all said their systems were operational.
