Shooting Incident reported in Croydon Park on Sunday (05 October)

As per New South Wales (NSW) Police reports, a prolonged active shooting incident occurred at Croydon Park, in Sydney’s inner west, between 1945 and 2130 hours (local time) on Sunday (05 October). A 60-year-old man allegedly fired up to 100 rounds from a unit located above a commercial establishment along Georges River Road, targeting passing vehicles, including police cars.

• The situation prompted an immediate lockdown of the surrounding area as tactical response units and armed officers were deployed to contain the threat. Streets near Georges River Road were closed for nearly two hours while police engaged the suspect. The man was eventually subdued and taken into custody. He remains under police guard at Bankstown Hospital and has not yet been charged.
• Paramedics treated 16 individuals at the scene for minor injuries, including cuts from shattered glass and shock, while two people were hospitalized for further treatment. One taxi driver in his 50s sustained gunshot wounds to the neck and head and remains in serious but stable condition.
• No indication of terrorism or gang involvement has been identified at this stage. Police investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the shooting.
