Shahpur Colony slum in Chandigarh to be razed on Tuesday (30 September)

As per reports, the Chandigarh Union Territory (UT) Administration has announced that it will demolish the last slum — Shahpur Colony in Sector 38 (West) — on Tuesday (30 September), making Chandigarh the first slum-free city in India.

Public notices have been issued to the occupants of Shahpur Colony. asking them to vacate the land at the earliest; nearly 44 families in the colony have been found to be eligible under the rehabilitation scheme. However, many of the 2,000 residents in the slum have expressed concerns over displacement.
