As per reports, the Finnish Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow severe thunderstorm warning for Monday (27 July) from 1200 hours to 2100 hours local time (0900 hours to 1800 hours UTC) covering Kainuu, Pudasjärvi, Taivalkoski, Kuusamo, Posio, Salla and Kemijärvi.

• Thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening, with an estimated 30 percent probability of producing strong wind gusts capable of causing localized wind damage, including fallen trees and brief electricity supply disruptions.
• The warning coincides with active wildfire warnings across several regions of Finland due to exceptionally dry ground conditions.
• Under Finnish regulations, lighting open fires, including campfires, is prohibited in areas where wildfire warnings are in effect.
• The Finnish Meteorological Institute noted that municipality specific wildfire warnings remain applicable in parts of Northern Ostrobothnia and Lapland, including Kuusamo, Taivalkoski and Pudasjärvi, despite the forecast for thunderstorms.
• Forecasts indicate increasing cloud cover from midday, followed by scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
• Although rainfall may locally reduce wildfire risk, lightning associated with thunderstorms may also ignite new fires in dry vegetation before significant precipitation reaches the ground.
• Sudden wind gusts, localized heavy rainfall and reduced visibility are expected to create hazardous travel conditions, particularly on exposed roads and in forested areas across eastern and northern Finland.
