As per reports, the Philippine National Police (PNP) initiated security measures for the Black Nazarene procession or Traslacion set to be held on Tuesday (09 January).
• Around 13,700 policemen will be deployed to secure the key areas and the procession routes.
• The police announced the use of cell phone jammers and banned carrying backpacks as part of strict security measures.
• Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan has directed the Coast Guard District National Capital Region- Central Luzon (CGDNCR-CL) to support the PNP in implementing security measures for the Traslacion.
• Accordingly, Coast Guard K9 units will be deployed to conduct screenings at the Quirino Grandstand, Jones Bridge, and Quiapo Church.
• PCG personnel will assist security forces in the vicinity waters off Pasig River and Manila Bay (behind Quirino Grandstand) through coastal patrols onboard Coast Guard floating assets.
• Coast Guard medical teams, equipped for mass evacuation via Pasig River and Manila Bay, will be on stand by to provide necessary assistance during the procession.
• Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently conducting road maintenance activities along the route of the Black Nazarene procession.
