Road surface collapse reported in Kaohsiung City on Monday (13 April)

As per reports, a road surface collapse was reported on Lane 14, Ruichun Street in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung City, on Monday (13 April) at approximately between 1554 and 1600 hours (local time).

• The incident resulted in the sudden formation of a pothole measuring approximately 80 centimeters in width and 100 centimeters in length, posing a safety risk to road users. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
• Upon receiving the report, local authorities, including the Police Department and the Road Construction Office under the Public Works Bureau, implemented immediate traffic control and warning measures.
• The Public Works Bureau confirmed that preliminary safety measures were in place and that the Excavation and Pipeline Center has been tasked with notifying relevant pipeline companies to conduct on-site inspections.
• Authorities are currently investigating the underlying cause of the road surface collapse, with particular focus on potential issues related to underground pipelines and soil stability. As of now, the exact cause remains undetermined.
