As per reports, minibus taxi routes and ranks in Khayelitsha, Mfuleni, Lwandle, Nomzamo, and Somerset West are scheduled to be closed from Wednesday (17 September) until 17 October, following weeks of deadly clashes between rival associations Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata) and the Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (Codeta).
The following routes are expected to be impacted:
• From Mfuleni to Somerset West on Route M18.
• From Lwandle to Khayelitsha via Somerset West on Route 43.
• From Khayelitsha to Somerset West on Route 611.
• From Nomzamo to Mfuleni on Route X19.
• From Khayelitsha to Somerset West via Vergelegen on Route AA20.
• From Khayelitsha to Somerset West via Somerset Mall on Route R96.
• From Khayelitsha to Sitari Village Mall (drop-off) on Route AA21.
• From Khayelitsha to Somerset West (drop-off only) on Route R97.
• From Mfuleni to Somerset West (drop-off only) on Route YEX63.
• From Mfuleni to Somerset West (drop-off only) on Route YEX64.
• Specified lanes at taxi ranks in Khayelitsha, Makhaza, Mfuleni, Somerset West, Nomzamo, and Lwandle are also likely to be shut.
