As per reports, restrictions to traffic movement have been placed along the Udhagamandalam – Gudalur Road from Wednesday (28 May) onwards. The restrictions have been initiated after two boulders have become precariously lodged atop two trees overlooking the highway, posing a risk to motorists:
• Due to the restrictions imposed, only local vehicles, emergency vehicles and buses will be allowed during the day.
• Heavy vehicles have been banned along the route due to the hazard near Naduvattam, while buses will be allowed only between 0600 hours and 1800 hours.
• All tourist spots will remain closed on Thursday (29 May) due to the expected spells of heavy rainfall. Moreover, District Collectors of neighbouring districts in Kerala and Karnataka have been informed of the hazardous weather and road conditions.
