The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts across Odisha in anticipation of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall as of Tuesday (28 October). The following are the details:
• On Tuesday (28 October), red alert for extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and squall has been issued in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagarha, Gajapathi, and Ganjam districts of Odisha.
• Orange alert for very heavy rainfall has been issued in Puri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Bauda, Subarnapur, Balangir, Nauparha, and Baragarh districts on Tuesday (28 October).
• Yellow alert for heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and squall has been issued in all districts of Odisha, except Dhenkanal on Tuesday (28 October).
• However, according to the nowcast display of IMD, issued at 0400 hours (local time) and valid until 0700 hours (local time) on Tuesday (28 October), orange alert for heavy rainfall has been issued in Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagarha districts. Moderate rainfall of 05-15 millimeter per hour (mm/h), alongside thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed between 41 to 61 km/h and moderate lightning probability of 30 to 60 percent, is expected.
• In addition, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Jajapur, Kandhamal, Bauda, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts are forecast with light rainfall (less than 05 mm/h) with maximum surface wind speed less than 40 km/h and lightning probability less than 30 percent.
• On Wednesday (29 October), red alert for extremely heavy rainfall has been maintained in Navrangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagarha districts. Orange alert for very heavy rainfall has been issued in Nayagarh, Baragarh, Balangir, Sambalpur, Bauda, Kandhamal, Subarnapur, Khordha, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. The rest of the districts have been forecast with yellow alert for heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and squall.
