As per reports, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has placed the Visayas regional power grid under a red alert status from 1800 hours (local time) to 2000 hours (local time) on Thursday (13 August) due to a widening power supply shortage.
Following are the details:
• Yellow alerts are scheduled to precede and follow the red alert period, from 1400 hours (local time) to 1800 hours (local time) and 2000 hours (local time) to 2100 hours (local time) on Thursday (13 August).
• As on Thursday (13 August), the regional grid reported a supply deficit of 77 megawatts.
• The grid alert declarations are attributed to the forced outage of six power plants alongside the continued unavailability of several coal-fired generation units and limited power imports from Mindanao.
• Consumers in Metro Cebu and other areas across the Visayas region face potential rotational power interruptions during peak demand hours.
