The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for a cold wave in parts of Haryana and Punjab until Sunday (14 January).

• In Haryana, the alert has been issued in Karnal, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Mehendragarh, Rewari, Mewat, Palwal and Kaithal.
• Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for the rest of Haryana, including Gurugram.
• In Punjab, a red alert has been issued for Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Firozpur, Moga, Bhatinda, Mansa and Patiala among others.
• An orange alert has been issued for the rest of the state.
