Public access to Bankra Mosque in Kolkata Airport area remains suspended as of Tuesday (14 July)

As per reports, authorities have suspended the entry passes for devotees visiting the historic Bankra Mosque located inside the Kolkata Airport since Saturday (11 July), and access continues to be restricted as of Tuesday (14 July).

• Authorities cited security concerns over allowing access solely based on the basis of AADHAR cards.
• The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) also reportedly raised security concerns regarding permission granted for civilians to enter and offer prayers at the mosque located in the operational part of the Kolkata Airport.
• On Monday (13 July), West Bengal Chief Minsiter Suvendu Adhikari clarified that the state government’s stand on the controversy over the suspension of entry passes for congregational prayers at the mosque by stating that national security takes precedence over everything else.
