As per reports, various civil society organisations, environmental groups, and members of the Green Party are likely to protest against a shipment of nuclear waste from the United Kingdom (UK), bound for Germany for disposal. Following are the details:

• As of Saturday (29 March), seven Castor containers of nuclear waste belonging to the Essen-based Gesellschaft für Nuklear-Service (GNS) are en route from UK to Germany via a special ship.
• For security reasons, authorities have not released the exact route and schedule of the shipment to the public. However, the special shipment is scheduled to arrive in Nordenham, Lower Saxony (Wesermarsch District), by Tuesday (01 April) at the latest. The containers will be transported from the German port to Niederaichbach (Landshut District) in Lower Bavaria. There they will be stored at the Isar interim storage facility at the former Isar nuclear power plant.
• A vigil against the nuclear waste transport has been announced for 1600 hours (local time) on Saturday (29 March) in Nordenham. Further protests are likely to be announced.
