As per reports, a sanitation worker died in a road accident on National Highway-39 in Latehar district. The accident occurred on Wednesday (03 September) evening when a municipal garbage tractor collided with another vehicle.
Following the accident, family members and residents staged a protest, blocking NH-39 for around half an hour on Thursday (04 September).
• Protesters demanded immediate financial assistance for the deceased’s family, along with government employment for his dependents.
• The demonstrators carried the body of the deceased in a procession to the municipal council office, where they staged a sit-in demonstration.
• Senior officials, including the Municipal Administrator and the Sadar Police Station in-charge, engaged in negotiations with the protesters.
• After discussions, the municipal administration announced a relief of INR 50,000 in cash for funeral expenses and assured that the deceased’s son and daughter would be considered for government employment.
