As per reports, on the evening of the federal election on Sunday (23 February), demonstrations and protests by left-wing groups are planned at multiple political parties’ election events in Berlin.
• Law enforcement authorities will be deployed, particularly at the Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands (CDU) and Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) election gatherings, to prevent possible disruptions or security incidents.
• A demonstration titled ‘Together and in solidarity against the right’ has been formally registered in front of the CDU headquarters near Tiergarten park. Approximately 750 participants are expected. A police spokesperson has confirmed a security presence at the CDU premises.
• Online calls for protests have been observed targeting the election party of the right-wing populist AfD, which is expected to perform strongly in the elections.
• The initial meeting point for demonstrators is set at the Gesundbrunnen Center near the S-Bahn station in northern Berlin. However, the exact location of the AfD election event remains undisclosed.
