As per reports, protest demonstrations have been called in Pamplona in the Basque Country and Navarra on Sunday (19 July), coinciding with the FIFA World Cup Final in which Spain is scheduled to participate. T

• The demonstrations are being organised by pro-Basque independence and abertzale (Basque nationalist) groups, who intend to denounce what they describe as the use of Spanish national football to promote Spanish nationalism and to demand official recognition of the Basque national team (Euskal Selekzioa).
• In Vitoria-Gasteiz, a mobilisation is scheduled at 1900 hours local time (1700 hours UTC) on Sunday (19 July) at the Farolón, under the slogan ‘Euskal Selekzioa en Euskadi. ¡No a la asimilación!’ (Basque national team in the Basque Country. No to assimilation!).
• In Donostia-San Sebastián, the collective Bultzada has called for a gathering at the Boulevard at 1900 hours local time (1700 hours UTC) on Sunday (19 July) to demand official recognition of the Basque national team and the right to self-determination.
• The Pamplona city council, governed by EH Bildu under Mayor Joseba Asiron, will install four large screens around the kiosk in the Plaza del Castillo for the World Cup Final on Sunday (19 July), following a majority vote in the city council. The EH Bildu-led coalition has publicly stated its opposition to the measure.
