As per reports, political tensions escalated in the Santoshpur area of Bagnan, Howrah district, West Bengal, on Thursday (18 June) following the killing of BJP functionary Prasanta Dey on Wednesday (17 June).
• BJP leaders alleged that Dey was attacked by individuals linked to the Trinamool Congress (TMC), while TMC representatives denied the allegations and claimed the violence stemmed from a separate confrontation involving supporters of both parties.
• Following the incident, BJP supporters and local residents staged protests and blocked sections of the Shyampur–Bagnan Road, while reports indicated damage to property linked to individuals allegedly associated with the opposing political group.
• Police have arrested eight individuals in connection with the case and have intensified security deployments in the area. Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing and that additional arrests may follow.
