As per reports, several hundred Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) employees carried out a 14-hour strike action from 0600-2030 hours of Tuesday (11 June) after the district administration allegedly failed to meet the 07 June deadline to implement the demands of PGIMER employees.

• The strike was led by the contractual workers’ Joint Action Committee (JAC), which has alleged that district authorities have failed to disburse an INR 46 crores (460 million) grant from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which was specifically meant to release arrears of wages to PGIMER employees.
• Several employees also staged sit-in protests with placards outside the PGIMER campus in Chandigarh’s Sector-12.
• The JAC called off their strike in the evening following assurances from the district administration that arrears of wages will be disbursed by 30 June, while demands related to regularisation and dearness allowance will also be looked into.
• However, the JAC has announced that it will initiate an indefinite strike from 30 June onwards if the demands are not met.
