As per reports, the outgoing President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has officially called for a nationwide mass mobilization and announced plans to deliver a public farewell address to the country on Independence Day, on 20 July.

• Through public statements, President Petro invited citizens, labor unions, students, and social organizations to gather massively in public squares across the country.
• The mobilization is intended to demonstrate popular defense of his administration’s social and structural reforms ahead of the upcoming presidential transition.
• President Petro stated that his formal farewell speech as head of state is scheduled to be delivered on 20 July, following the traditional Independence Day military parade.
• The highly unusual timeline bypasses the traditional transition dates of 06 August and 07 August, which the outgoing president publicly designated as “tragic dates” following the narrow, contested June election of hard-right president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella.
• Left-wing political factions and social movements are organizing large-scale rallies and citizen concentrations to align with the start of the new legislative session of Congress, where the left retains a major legislative bloc.
• The primary focal point of the mobilization will be in the capital city of Bogotá, with major parallel events and traffic restrictions confirmed in principal regional capital squares including Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Pereira, and Ibagué.
