The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange and yellow alerts for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across most districts of Maharashtra on Wednesday (12 June). Additionally, the IMD has forecast a break in heavy rainfall activity in Mumbai for the next few days, however, June is expected to witness “above normal” rainfall.
• Orange alert is active in the districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
• Meanwhile yellow alert is active in Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Pune, Ahmednagar, Akola, Amravati, Aurangabad, Beed, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Hingoli, Jalgaon, Jalna, Kolhapur, Latur, Nagpur, Nanded, Nashik, Osmanabad, Palghar, Parbhani, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Thane, Wardha, Washim, Yavatmal.
• The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday (11 June) issued a notice urging citizens to avoid standing under trees during heavy rainfall and placed posters citywide for awareness. In preparation for the monsoon, 22,334 trees and branches were pruned, and 433 dead or infested trees were removed last month. Additionally, the BMC issued notices to 4,909 establishments to ensure timely tree trimming in both private and government areas.
