Nitish Kumar steps down as Bihar Chief Minister on Thursday (05 March)

As per reports, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on Thursday (05 March) that he will step down from his position and seek entry into the Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of India’s Parliament.

• The announcement was made through a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) where Kumar stated that he had long wished to serve as a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and both Houses of Parliament.
• He is expected to formally enter the Upper House once the new Rajya Sabha term begins after Thursday (09 April) when several sitting members retire.
• Following the announcement, a large number of workers from the Janata Dal (United) gathered outside the chief minister’s official residence in Patna on Thursday (05 March). The party workers raised slogans in support of Kumar and expressed concern over the reported leadership transition.
• Some alliance members believe he may take on a role in public life, although there has been no official confirmation regarding his position or responsibilities.
