As per reports, the National Backward Classes (OBC) Front has warned of a nationwide agitation and demonstrations on Monday (22 June) if its demand for the inclusion of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) as a separate category in the ongoing census process is not addressed. The warning was issued during a memorandum campaign in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh.
• The organisation has stated that the current census process provides separate categories for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) but does not include a distinct category for OBCs. Representatives have submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Home Affairs through local authorities seeking changes to the census framework.
• The group stated that its campaign is under way across multiple states and districts and has indicated that nationwide rallies and demonstrations may be organised if its demands remain unmet.
