As per reports, the Nairobi Police Department has declared the planned #RejectFuelPrices protests scheduled for Tuesday (21 April) as illegal.
• Police authorities stated that the declaration was made due to a lack of official notice from the organizers, as required under the Public Order Act.
• The protests are expected to take place across major roads leading to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) and informal settlements from approximately 0800 hours local time (0500 hours UTC) on Tuesday (21 April).
• Opposition coalition groups and youth activists have reportedly planned the demonstrations to protest against rising fuel costs and government taxation policies.
• Heightened security deployment and the use of tear gas and water cannons are anticipated in areas such as Uhuru Park, Kenyatta Avenue, and Harambee Avenue.
