According to latest reports, following are the updates on the conflict in Myanmar as of Monday (05 February).

• Myanmar Junta stated that the state of emergency will be extended again in August, if necessary, during a meeting of the National Defense and Security Council (NDSC).
• Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing, has extended emergency rule five times, citing the need to restore peace and stability so that the fresh election he promised after the coup could be held.
• The ethnic Arkan Army (AA) has reportedly seized another Myanmar military battalion base amid an escalating offensive in Rakhine State. The AA said it captured Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 540 after several days of fighting in Mrauk-U Township, where it has also besieged bases belonging to LIBs 377 and 778.
• The Myanmar military regime has sacked its election body chief Thein Soe after extending emergency rule for another six months. The move followed the announcement of amendments to the new Political Parties Registration Law enacted by the regime last year.
• US Treasury Department has stated that it was imposing sanctions on two entities ‘closely associated with Burma’s military regime’ and four individuals. They include the Shwe Byain Phyu Group of Companies and shipping firm Myanma Five Star Line Company Limited.
