As per reports, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have announced rallies in Kolkata on Friday (16 August) to protest against the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder incident:
• Between 1400-1600 hours of Friday (16 August), the BJP has called for a statewide strike. Furthermore, the BJP women’s wing will hold a candlelight procession towards Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence. State BJP President and Union Minister of State Sukant Majumdar will also participate in the candlelight march.
• The BJP youth wing and other workers have also announced a sit-in protest outside the RG Kar premises from 1100 hours onwards.
• TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee has also stated that she will lead a protest rally in the city to demand justice in the case. The rally, which was initially scheduled on Saturday (17 August), will take place from Moulali to Dharmtala in Kolkata on Friday (16 August).
