Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted on Saturday morning (02 August); Alert Level IV issued

As per the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency (Flotim), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted in the early hours of Saturday morning (02 August).

• The height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 18,000 meters above sea level.
• The ash column of the eruption was grey to black.
• Avalanches occurred, but visually, the distance and direction of the avalanches were not observed.
• Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is currently at Level IV (Alert) status. Therefore, the PVMBG urges the public and visitors to refrain from any activity within a six-kilometer radius and a seven-kilometer southwest-northeast sector of the eruption center.
• The authority have also asked the public to be aware of the potential for rain-induced lava floods in rivers that originate at the peak of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki if there is heavy rain, especially in the villages of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote.
