The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has reported that an earthquake has occurred approximately 209 kilometres northwest of the Tanimbar Islands at 1005 hours (local time) on Thursday (01 January).

The earthquake registered a magnitude of 5.6 at an estimated depth of 189 kilometres. No casualties or damage have been reported as of this update.
